Dedicated to the memory of Lorna Burns

Lorna George was born in Glasgow on 8 June 1958 and grew up in Lenzie with her sister Lynn and brother Kenneth. Her loving parents Cecil and Margaret instilled in her a lifelong interest in nature. She was the first member of her family ever to attend university, graduating in English from the University of Strathclyde. Lorna married Malcolm Burns in 1984 and had four sons, James in 1985, Michael in 1986, Liam in 1991 and Neil in 1992. She worked as a librarian and a teacher and was a wonderful, devoted mother. Her life's passions included literature, music and her strong sense of spirituality. Lorna loved hosting cocktail parties for friends and family at her home of 34 years in Maryhill. Observing and learning about wildlife was a constant throughout her life and it brought her much peace and happiness. Lorna adored listening to the small birds in the trees around her home, feeding them at her window and caring for them. It was her wish that we all continue to look after her birds, so we ask for whatever contribution you can make to the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds.
